Despite living in one of the sailing capitals of the world, I didn't grow up sailing and have very few friends who sail regularly. With that being said, my friends and I do try to charter a boat at least once a summer for a few hours. Though I had been on my annual seafaring adventure once already this summer, I was thrilled to hear that the manager of my real estate team, Katy, organized an outing on the Aurora.
For anyone who lives or visits Newport, I strongly recommend at least one sailing excursion either on the Aurora or any of the other smaller boats in the area. This particular tour lasted two hours and it takes you all along the southern edge of Narragansett Bay. It's cool to see an area that you are so familiar with, from a completely difference perspective. I love going underneath the Newport Bridge or around Clingstone (a house on an island so small, the foundation takes up about 60% of the land). And of course, the sunsets are always beautiful.
On this particular day, the weather wasn't ideal for sailing. It was the coldest day of the summer, but at least it didn't rain like the forecast predicted! My team made fun of me for wearing a wool sweater in the middle of July (and then I also borrowed a coworkers jacket), but hey, I was the only one not complaining of being cold!
One of the best things about these trips is that the crew typically allows you to bring all of the food and drinks that you would like. (In some cases, they even provide everything for you!) What Katy brought for the trip went above and beyond including blood orange margaritas that are always a huge hit! Those were accompanied with sangria, beer, and wine...needless to say people weren't cold for long! We enjoyed our drinks while snacking on meatball subs, veggies with hummus, and buffalo chicken dip.
