Nantucket Holiday Stroll

This past weekend my mom and I went to Nantucket for the Holiday Stroll. We took the ferry from the Cape Friday morning and arrived by noon. It was my first trip to the island and as soon as I saw the lighthouse from the boat, I knew that I was in love.

The holidays are officially here and I, for one, couldn't be more excited! Every year I have a mental list of what I'd like to do during the holiday season but, truth be told, I never get close to completing it. Maybe now that it's in writing I'll have a better chance?

My mom and I decided to take a spontaneous trip to Cape Cod last weekend.  She had been looking online at an auction preview and found a chair that she "had to have" for MY apartment. I'm not complaining, she's just interesting like that - haha.  We met up Friday afternoon and off we went.

My new apartment is coming together slowly, but surely.  I still need to find a few things (living room rug, coffee table, throw pillows, etc), but I'm so excited that it's starting to take shape.  Typically, I wouldn't describe my style as super girlie; I love leather furniture, large oriental rugs, and tartan throws.  However, I figured since I have plenty of time for all that in the future, I should do an over-the-top ultra feminine apartment while I can.

After practically living off of Chipotle and Panera last year, I have been attempting to cook more since moving to Newport.  Now to be honest, I am no Rachel Ray when it comes to cooking, but that is exactly why I wanted to share this recipe (and hopefully a few more in the future).  If I can do it, anybody can.

Capes, I believe, are the best way to add something a little unexpected to a fall outfit, while still looking classic.  Every year I tell myself I am going to invest in one, but it wasn't until this year that I found a few I truly love.  I would be thrilled to add any of the above capes to my outerwear wardrobe.  (If only I could pick just one!)  Help me out by telling me which one is your favorite!

Pumpkin decorating is the one thing on my fall bucket list that I never seem to get around to, which is why I am making it a priority this year!  Since the whole carving thing and I don't really mix (plus pumpkins last longer when they haven't been cut), I will probably opt for one of these cute designs that I found online.  I love how these pumpkins are all pretty neutral so that you can use them throughout the entire season.

       My favorite time of year is right around the corner and unless you've been living under a rock, you know that the seventies are back in full force for fall.  I actually do like seventies fashion, especially with a modern update, but given the fact that my personal style is more classic than trendy, I find it difficult to spend a lot of money on clothing that may be out of date next season.  Below are some pieces that I believe fit this fall's trend, but are classic enough to wear for years to come.

Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays.  In my mind, it's the official start of summer.  Beach, barbecues, and bonfires shared with friends... what more could someone ask for?  Below you'll find some of my favorites to help you make the most of your Independence Day weekend.

In a few months I plan to move back to Newport and I couldn't be more excited.  Despite having no idea which apartment I'll be renting, I've already started to look for design inspiration.  I want this apartment to feel like more of a home, more permanent than any of the others in the past.  And believe me, there have been A LOT of past apartments.  I'm so excited to stay put for a little while (fingers crossed!) and am finally ready (and able) to start investing in some quality furniture.

Interior design has been a part of my life since I was little.  My mother was (and still is) constantly redoing every room in her house, moving so that she could tackle another project, and buying more house magazines and furniture than any one person could ever know what to do with.  Even as I write this, I am staring at a demolished kitchen.

The Perfect Summer Dress

I never thought that I would admit it, but I am officially tired of winter.  Where is the sun?!  During the recent snow storms, I have found myself day dreaming of beaches and shopping online for dresses, sandals, and swimwear.  A simple white dress is perhaps my favorite thing to wear in the warmer months.  It is my go to outfit whether I'm shopping around town, walking to the beach, or going to a night time party.  I have already found a few that I am in love with (see below).  I hope to be adding at least one of these pieces to my summer wardrobe!
